Blue lapis

Exodus 24: 10 – 11

There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself. And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!

The instructions had been given. Now the Lord was going to share a meal with His people ~ WOW!

Imagine…Underneath God's foot was something brilliant like blue lapis and the people were gazing at God. He was sharing the time with His people.

Do you think they were able to eat?

Do you think they got it?

It boggles my brain. Imagine you are going to share a very important meal, sealing a covenant (a promise) with God. Do you think you could have eaten?

I know on must lesser occasions, I get nervous and can't eat…

Here they were with God ~ Wow!

God was allowing the special leaders to be in his presence! To see brilliant blue lapis underneath his feet and to gaze upon HIM and to share a meal what more could these leaders have desired?

And yet we know what is coming in just a few chapters - grumbling, worship of other gods…how does this happen? How did this happen? The leaders that had been in God's presence allowed this to happen and yet they had gazed upon God…How could this happen?

Mere humans aren't we? It doesn't take long to forget…just a few chapters for these folks.

What about us?

Longing,

Debbie

Debbie, this passage just strikes me with wonder. Why didn't they tell us more of what they saw? Maybe they were just awe struck and that is all they could remember. Maybe that is all God wanted us to know from that encounter. Can you imagine it in your mind?

Verse 11 says, "...these nobles of Israel gazed upon God...." I looked up "gazed" and the dictionary said "to stare." I think that I would be staring too! What were they eating and drinking? Was it much like the The Lord's Supper with bread and wine? Just wondering!!!

Just like the song says, "I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your face is before me. I can only imagine. Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I sing... dance...?" I just love that song!

Something else that spoke to me today was 23:20. "See, I am sending an angel before you to protect you on your journey and lead you safely....." There's the proof right there!!! We do have guardian angels. Thank You Lord for protecting us! I believe with all my heart on the night that Dan had the car wreck, he was not killed or hurt badly because he was protected by the Lord's guardian angels! Thank You for sending Your guardian angels to lead us safely! Thank You for Your angels protecting Dan that night! Thank You!!!!......
