Looking into the Mirror

James 1: 23-25

23 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Mirrors, they aren't what they used to be ~ or they? Or is it the older we get we like what we see less and less?

I hate to really look in the mirror. I notice a line that wasn't there the last time that I really looked or I notice a new dimple that wasn't there the last time…it is not something I like to do anymore or ever for that matter. Insecurity issues make mirrors not one of my favorite items. I always felt they were more like a microscope rather than a helper to see.

Did you know in the times that bible was written that a mirror would have been made with silver or copper/tin? They were a polished metal.

Look at verse 25 closely but whoso looketh, /~parakuqav/~ means to stoop down nearby anything; to bend forward near, so as to look at anything more closely. The meaning is if we attentively looked into, and continued to look at the laws, and not look away or forget when we walk away, we would be blessed. The emphasis of this passage is not in the manner of looking, but in the idea of continuing or the act of being able to preserve in the law.

Do you forget what you see in the mirror or just block it out?

Do we forget what we read in the Word and just choose to forget that it applies to us?

Let's take a look in the mirror…What do we see?

Sweet blessings,

Debbie

Debbie, how interesting the comparison of looking in the mirror and ignoring what we see to reading the Word and not applying it to my life. Praying that I hide God's Word in my heart that I might never ever forget it.
