Dependence

1 Kings 11: 1-13

Now Solomon loved many foreign women…

The Lord had clearly instructed…

You must not marry any of them…

The LORD was very angry with Solomon…

Please read this entire passage so that you will get the entire story. Very clear instructions from the LORD jumped right out at me and another thing was that the LORD had appeared to Solomon twice. Not just once twice! Now we have the man with wisdom and he is older it tells us, so what happened?

Do you think perhaps it was that he stopped depending on the LORD for his instructions? He stopped looking for wisdom from the LORD and only depended on himself?

Perhaps he thought he was past needing the LORD…he is older, wiser, and the king...the rules no longer applied?

We never grow past the point of dependence on the LORD, but all too often we might think we do…it was so sad to me and spoke so much to this topic when I went looking for my picture today. I typed in dependence and the pictures that were shown were cigarettes, alcohol, medicine, gas, oil, gambling, opposite sex and in the middle of the pictures was the picture of the shepherd with the sheep. Talk about grabbing your attention!

What is it that turns us away from God? Solomon allowed women to turn his attention. Our world is so busy and offers so much that demands our attention and do we allow this to happen or do we keep the LORD at the top of the list of importance? Do we follow His very clear instructions like we do the instructions of the people around us daily?

Wow, so much food for thought today. Who and what am I going to depend on in this life? The Lord clearly loves us even in our failures look at verse 13, And even so, I will not take away the entire kingdom…

Read this story please it speaks so to our world today…

Sweet blessings,

Debbie

Debbie, I became sad as I read how Solomon began to build shrines to these other gods that his wives worshipped. He even put one on the Mount of Olives.

You asked us, "What is it that turns us away from God?" I thought of the Apostle Paul and what he said, "The very thing that I don't want to do, is the thing I do." I feel that way plenty of times, like why did I do that again or why did I say that again.

Thank God that He does love us, even in our failures
