Open the Door

Genesis 7:16

Then the Lord closed the door behind them.

The Lord was going to be sure that Noah was protected. He closed the door to the bad things happening, the flood waters, the storms of life that were about to happen and it was closed to shut all of this out and protect Noah. Yesterday, we were told that Noah's name might mean comfort or relief. I found this interesting thinking about what was about to face Noah and what he already faced while building the ark.

Imagine, the ridicule look at that crazy Noah building that boat and nowhere near the water. What is he doing?

The Lord closed the door to the ridicule, the evil ones, and protected Noah and gave him relief from the flood that was about to happen.

As I read this verse another verse kept coming to my mind from Revelation 3:20 ~ Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

The whole time I was reading it was like I kept thinking God provides a safe place for us. He will protect us just like the ark did with Noah, but it is our choice to be obedient to God's desires for us. It is our choice to open the door and let Christ in.

Does anyone else find this scripture so striking?

The Lord shut the door….

Here I stand at the door and knock…please let me in…

It is your choice, if you open the door.

Opening the door,

Debbie

Debbie, what I continue to be amazed by is that the Word is fresh each time it is read. A story that I think I know so well is full of new insights each time I read it. It never gets old.

It is hard for me to believe how many times I have overlooked that verse about God shutting the door to the Ark. I think I first noticed it last year. Your comparison of the doors in Genesis and Revelation is interesting. Wow!

A couple of other things caught my attention this morning. God's timing: in Genesis 7:1, When everything was ready, the Lord said to Noah, " Go into the boat...." In Genesis 8:19, all of the animals came out of the boat, pair by pair. They did not come out in a mad chaotic rush, but orderly. We serve a God of order.

Frankie,

I love the fact that you pointed out about the order. We all know animals and this would only happen with God...Indeed a God of order.

debbie and frankie,
WOW!!!!! it is day 3 of my new year's resolution, which is to read daily from the 24/7 bible. i want to thank both of you for your comments as it really helps me to understand these wonderful writings. as you both pointed out the orderly manner of the gathering of animals was a miracle in itself, when reading this, i thought about how difficult it must have been to gather and collect a pair of every living speciman on earth. as you both know i am a checklist type person and i could just visualize noah checking off his "to do" list!!!!
